Hong Kong - The new screen content hub during a hubbub

Daring and glaring at its neighbors, Hong Kong is set to claim itself as the Asian hub for screen content.

Following the footsteps of Australia which availed itself with China’s thirst for resources, Hong Kong is being a propitious source for film and TV growth bestowed by China.

It has chosen to strike when the iron is hot. I’m referring to the credit squeeze faced by the recent two cities who have heavily invested in the creative industries, Dubai and Singapore.

The city projected its fifth Entertainment Expo, comprising of various films and TV events this week. It’s planned to be running for the whole month.

The paramount event was the International Film Festival Hong Kong Film & Television Market (FILMART) and it is but obvious to see the razzmatazz of the Hong Kong International Film Festival.

The other events being held uptil April 19, are The HK Music Fair, Digital Entertainment Leadership Forum, HK Independent Short Film and Video Awards and the Asian Film Fare Awards, which obviously was replete with celebrities.

Like the Japanese attendees, there has been a crescent in the Mainland China exhibitors this year. The China Radio and Television Association, which represents 600 stations in China, made its premier launch in the market.

The assistant executive director of the HK Trade Development Council, Benjamin Chau seemed to be in high spirits after he saw an encouraging growth in the number of exhibitors despite the global economic crisis.

Looking at the sunny side, the Hong Kong Film Festival has hoisted up revenues generated through sponsorships. This could mean that the <a href="http://www.scmp.com/">Hong Kong Entertainment</a> industry, if treated prudently, can go to great lengths and help Hong Kong in its pursuit of striving against the global monetary hubbub.
