The Fred Hall Show at the Long Beach Convention Center showcased hundreds of vendors with their latest and greatest products and seminars to make anglers fishing trips more successful and fun and let me tell you, the show itself was fun!

I had the opportunity to talk to many Charters that would take anglers to Alaska, Mexico, Hawaii and dozens of other locations. The trips ranged from 2 to 6 day adventures. I was especially drawn to the Charter to Alaska. Captain Steve was a friendly sea-faring man. He was knowledgeable and energetic. It was obvious he loved his job. Who wouldn't? Fishing for a living; taking anglers out and showing them a good time. I recommend, if you have the time and money to charter a boat and hit the open seas. Grab the family and try an out of the norm vacation, a fishing vacation, I promise you will not regret it. The memories will last a lifetime and if you go at the right time the fishing can be epic!

The convention style show was packed with so many people and of course our future anglers, big eyes kids, with their parents investigating all sorts of reels, lures, rubber baits, hooks, line and tackle systems and tons of boats. I was drawn to the Daiwa reels. Yes I saw Avet, and as always I appreciate the quality and features; however, Daiwa offers you so much bang for your buck. Daiwa gives you the feeling of fishing with a custom reel. If you haven't had the opportunity to fishing a Saltist, Sealine, Acculine, or any of their models I recommend heading off to your local tackle store to feel the smoothness of the crank and their many features. If you have time during your lunch break head to a tackle shop and check out Daiwa's Twitchin' Bars, levelwinds, line counters and get a feel for their quality craftsmanship. Always compare prices before you invest in any fishing tackle of course! I had the opportunity to get another lesson from a dealer regarding the use of rubber baits or "plastics". Anglers are always eager to share stores and distribute tips and the Fred Hall show specializes in fishing tips and tricks. Regarding tackle systems; call me crazy, but from experience if you don't have a tackle system to organize your lures, baits, jigs, hooks, and jars; your fishing trip will be a nightmare. You don't think about it until you are in the middle of a huge bite and your hooks and lures are buried in the bucket you use for a tackle box and you cant get to them! Organization and quality gear are priority to make your fishing trip fun and when the bite is on it is usually only on for short time. The only fight you should have is with the fish; not your gear, especially the high dollar fishing gear! At the Plano booth I had the chance to touch every tackle box they have and my favorite is a new Plano 4897 Big Water Bag. This is a fantastic product designed for the high-seas, water-proof with lots of room and you can easily access and store your tackle. Also for comfort; it's made with a extra-soft handle which is great when the boat is down the ramp and at the end of the furthest dock. I love how we get to see the best of the best at these fishing shows and The Fred Hall show didn't disappoint by any means.

In short, The Fred Hall Show was fantastic! I highly recommend investing you and your families time in any fishing show when it comes to town. The shows give you the opportunity to touch everything, ask questions, learn about fishing techniques, new gear and the best part, getting excited about your passion. I built new friendships at the show and now I am very eager to get my line in the water. Good fishing to you!
