It only takes a little bit of effort to catch a fish off of the beach. All you need is a couple of weights, bait, a rod and a reel. All of these can be purchased at a local tackle shop for a few hundred dollars. Although you can get into dozens of different models of rods and reels, none of that really matters unless you get the right surf casting bait. What's hanging off the end of your line is the only interesting thing to that fish and without it you have nothing. All you can hope for is that the fish runs into your hook and that's it. This article will talk about one of the most popular baits to use, blood worms.
If you are going after striped bass, then it is an absolute necessity to use blood worms. Blood worms can grow up to 18 inches long, and it's quite rare to find one of that size. You usually buy them in packaged dozens though that will allow you to catch a good dozen fish.
When not fishing, you should keep the worms in a bag of dirt in a cool area such as your garage or a refrigerator. Make sure that there are plenty of holes for oxygen to go through so that they can breathe. It only takes a couple hours before the poor little creatures die from suffocation.
If you haven't guessed it yet, blood worms have sort of a reddish color to them. You can usually locate them on the bottom of shallow marine waters. By nature, they are terrible swimmers, but their real talent comes in at burying into the sand and bottoms of silt deposits. Besides striped bass, other fish such as bluefish, sea trout, flounder, and whiting also find them extremely attractive.
Although you can get fake blood worm bait or a blood worm lure, live tends to work better with most fish. Fake blood worms serve their purpose and you may save more money with them in the long run, but they just simply cannot compare to the real thing.
Blood worms can get quite expensive at $10 a dozen. If you don't know what you are doing or know exactly what fish you are going for, it would probably be best to use a lure for a while before wasting money on something such as live food. Only once you know the fish you are after and what it likes should you buy live blood worms.
There are literally dozens of different types of baits you can use for hundreds of types of fish, but the blood worms are a good starting point for any angler. The fish just can't seem to get enough of them and the price isn't too ridiculous. If you are an avid bait hunter you can look for them before you even start fishing and that will add a little bit of extra sport to it.
As long as you take care of your surf casting bait and fish responsibly you should have no trouble catching a big one.

Casting $58.94 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Casting is a manufacturing process by which a liquid material is usually poured into a mold, which contains a hollow cavity of the desired shape, and then allowed to solidify. The solidified part is also known as a casting, which is ejected or broken out of the mold to complete the process. Casting materials are usually metals or various cold setting materials that cure after mixing two or more components together; examples are epoxy, concrete, plaster and clay. Casting is most often used for making complex shapes that would be otherwise difficult or uneconomical to make by other methods.
