Fishing in Quebec rocks, especially if you're a city slicker like me. I love fishing shorelines, especially in Montreal. I spent the last two summers fishing from Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue to Verdun. Most people find it hard to believe we have such an amazing selection of species.

Most people that stop me, always want to know 2 things. What's in there and do I eat it!

Well there's walleye, Salmon, brown trout, shad, small and large mouth bass, sturgeon ,Cats, snakes(pike), muskie, eels, white fish and yes I eat the odd nice catch. Obviously like on any body of water you're going to find the odd looking fish. You just release them and let nature take it's course.

My favorite spots between Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue and Verdun are as follows: All accessible by foot and on public property.

1# Pointe Claire in front of the old convent, it's a huge building that has been around for hundreds of years. It acts as a break in a flow of 6-8 feet of water and has created a great ridge where walleye and huge perch gather. Remember I'm fishing from shore. I see many a boat on this point pulling in dozens of 2-3 pounders in mid to late spring. All on jigs and bait rigs with live minnows.

Next without a doubt in early spring is a sure spot for Huge walleye, starved bass, and the odd few Brown's come out on light Rapala in a black or brushed gold color. This is located in LaSalle at the end of 9th Ave, both ends of the island offer great fishing. This is an old dam, as you can see in the map, it's now a bay. The east side offers the aggressive bass, Brown's and for 3 weeks a run of Shad! Many shad are caught on a fly. Middle eastside of the island offers the feeding walleyes that bit on both white and black swirl tails with 1/2 oz jigs. 2-3 each Rapala's of a husky jerk or float action produce. Live bait before sunset rocks, but many a night a standard #6 hook with split shot and night crawl work awesome. The night crawler is dragged slowly along the bottom! This area is a Bird sanctuary as well, so be respectful of the surroundings with vigor. It's one of the biggest Herron safe zones in North America.
