Sand the wooden board that you will use for the seat. Focus on the sides and top that can splinter people. Cut another wooden board into two-foot sections that you will use for the legs. Lay one 2-foot board onto another that will create an x. Make two sets of this. Drill a hole into the cross point of the legs and put a bolt and nut in this. Drill another hole on the top to attach it to the seat. Drill four holes in the seat that will be used to attach itself into the two set of legs.

That was just a condensed version. Systematic, logical, step-by-step procedures are available on the internet. There are other alternatives, of course. Have one custom made and do the design yourself. Paint, carve or use stencils, anything's possible. Either way, the wooden bench is one of the easiest garden furniture to acquire.
